INITIAL PLAN - PROJECT DIRECTION
I like the idea of focusing on a bleaker, darker potential future. Initially I want to make a triptych that addresses/highlights pollution, over-population and flooding.
I want to lean much more into the collage and experimental imagery, I am going to sketch an outline of each triptych and then take photographs, either my own or ones from the internet to splice together and amalgamate into each panel.
Results/takeaways from partner critique
TO IMPROVE
- consistent orientation (landscape)
- universally recognisable landmark - london skyline?
-more cohesive narrative (build up of flood water/landfill) haze, fumes, smog?
- focus on single issue
ACTION PLAN
- use old landfill textures, will build up over London skyline
-remove hands + body of water (no longer relevant)
-progressive build up, text (HAZE, FUMES, SMOG)
- increase ISO progressively -> links to idea of building fog
- use consistent orientation
Final Triptych
Process and Analysis
the goal of the triptych is to represent and highlight the effects of landfill and pollution in the future. I used a landfill texture I found from the internet to create the piles that build up more in each panel.

I enforced this idea of building up by increasing the noise in the image, partially also to give the impression of clouding from fumes and smoke created by pollution (the noise is also layered in the image, less in the foreground to much more in the background).

The red haze also increases, in the critique I was also advised to add colour, and I really like the contrast between the red and grayscale. It also serves to give a more ominous and post-apocalyptic impression to the photographs. There is also a red tint to the sky which subtlety increases.

The buildings are made from photographs I took on a college trip to London, as are the different skies in each panel. The water texture is made from a photograph I took of the river in Stafford and then cropped and skewed the perspective of to fit into my panels.

Haze is the start of build up, I tried to keep details subtle but still noticable, slight noise in the sky and red haze on the horizon line, as well as the piles of trash that border the corners of the panel.
"Fumes" is the middle ground between slight and extreme. It's my second favourite of the three panels, this is where the build up becomes more apparent, more waste, more red on the skyline, more noise.
"Smog"
fog or haze intensified by smoke or other atmospheric pollutants.

Smog is my favourite panel, I like the contrast of the red with the black white. i also like how the noise looks on the rubble/landfill piles in the foreground. The pollution has blotted the sky to the point the clouds aren't distinguishable and the landfill has spilled from it's designated dumps to consume the city in waste.

Closing thoughts/Final analysis
Overall, I think the project went well. I enjoyed making the images and exploring Photoshop features more, and I am happy with the final images. I really like the noise and the way it makes it the collages look, especially on the rubbish piles.

I think it would've been good to include more detail and evidence of the process making the panels, I did have to restart a few times due to problems with the files saving/transferring. However, I could've saved stages of the work to show the steps better.
